WHEN YOU READ

Here are few tips to help you out when you read.

TIP #1 – MARK IT!

When you read, have a collection of colored pencils nearby.  You can give certain things a color.  For example:

References to GOD, JESUS, or THE HOLY SPIRIT  circle in YELLOW.

When you see MAIN CHARACTERS, mark them in BLUE.

When you see PLACES or COUNTRIES, mark them in GREEN

When God makes a PROMISE, mark it in ORANGE.

When someone messes up, mark it in RED.

TIP #2 – READ IT LIKE A BOOK!

When you pick up a book at the library, chances are it doesn’t have verses.  It may have chapters though.  Sometimes when we read the Bible, we can easily get lost in all those numbers on the side.  Here’s my advice.  Don’t pay too much attention to them.  When the Bible was first written, there were no chapters or verses.  So, read it like one big story.  Use your bookmark for when you have to take breaks though.

TIP #3 – INTERACT

If you have ever done a report for school, you know that it can require research.  Sometimes we will read something in one book or article, and then somewhere else we will learn a little bit more about the same thing.  The Bible is just like that.

For example, EXODUS has stories that we also learn more about in DEUTERONOMY.

The books of KINGS and the books of CHRONICLES are the same stories from two different groups of people.

The books of SAMUEL tell us a lot about King David, but the book of PSALMS gives us words that David actually wrote.

Get the picture?  Connecting these dots together help make the Bible easier to understand.

TIP #4 – DON’T PANIC

It looks like there are a lot pages.  There are.  But don’t let that stop you!  I promise it’s worth it.
